Protect your PESEL number
In the mObywatel application, and also in the district office or city hall, you can block your PESEL number and thus be protected from unauthorized activities, such as a loan taken using your personal data or unauthorized withdrawal of a larger sum of money.
As of June 1, 2024, financial institutions (e.g. banks, including Citi Handlowy) are obliged to verify whether a PESEL number is blocked in the registered of blocked PESEL numbers of the Ministry of Ditigization before concluding certain agreements with their customers. The verification is aimed at preventing scammers from obtaining money using stolen identity.
When will Citi Handlowy verify whether your PESEL number has been blocked?
- when concluding certain agreements (for more go to the Q&A section),
- when withdrawing cash at a bank outlet (if the withdrawn amount exceeds three times the minimum wage).
Ensure your own security – update/provide your PESEL number at the bank.
If we have your correct PESEL number, your data are more secure.
Valid PESEL number

- ensures that your data are up to date and allows us to inform you of any alarming events,
- ensures the proper performance of contractual obligations.
