The competition for the "Award of Bank Handlowy w Warszawie SA for outstanding achievements in the theory of economics and finance "

Thirteenth Competition
The objective of the competition, held every year since 1995, is to promote the most valuable and noteworthy publications in the area of economics and finance. Publications eligible for the competition are submitted by authorities of economic universities, economic institutes headquartered in Poland, banks, local government institutions, and economic publishing houses.

The 13th Competition was inaugurated on 8 November 2006 by Iwona Jaworska, the President of The Citi Handlowy Leopold Kronenberg Foundation, and by the President of Citibank Handlowy. The winner will be selected by the Jury chaired by prof. Leszek Zienkowski.

Twelfth Competition
The winner of the 12th Competition was Andrzej Rzońca, PhD, from the Warsaw School of Economics, author of a paper entitled "Non-Keynesian Effects of Tightened Fiscal Policy: Theory and Studies in Selected Central European Countries".

"The award of the Bank is intended to represent our deepest appreciation to the scholars who contribute to development of the theory of economics in Poland. The winning publication discusses a very up-to-date issue, as it shows how to limit the deficit in public finances in order to accelerate economic growth." - said Sławomir S. Sikora, President of Citibank Handlowy, at the award ceremony.

For the first time in the history of the Competition, the Jury granted a special award for overall achievements in the theory of economics and finance and the award went to Prof. Wacław Wilczyński, whose achievements include hundreds of highly esteemed worldwide publications, but also press articles which have played an important role in building economic awareness of the general public.

The award ceremony was accompanied by the economic conference "Effects of Tightened Fiscal Policy - Facts and Myths", which was conducted by Katarzyna Zajdel-Kurowska, the Chief Economist of Citibank Handlowy.
